Welcome to the South Suburban Land Bank & Development Authority. Founded in 2012 as the first land bank in Illinois, our organization represents 29 partner cities and villages across the Chicago Southland who work together to reclaim vacant and abandoned properties. Since our inception, the Land Bank has revitalized almost 200 distressed properties, transforming vacant buildings into active ones and returning them to the tax rolls.

In partnership with the Southland Development Authority (SDA), the Land Bank works with developers, governments, community leaders, businesses, and residents to return vacant property back to productive use. Since this partnership was formalized in December of 2021, the Land Bank has thrived. Each year, the Land Bank redevelops more properties, brings in more revenue, and operates in more communities.

Our work continues to positively impact the Chicago Southland economy. In 2023 alone, the Land Bank secured an estimated $452,816 in property tax revenue for our member communities by taking vacant properties and returning them to productive use.
